I took both chapters 16 and 17 together. (16 was short...and 17 was related due to the Canaanites). Two more portions of land are distributed. Both contain detail about the inheritance, complete with borders. A couple of observations stuck out though.
First, Ephraim was unable to drive out the Canaanites from their land (Josh 16:10). This influence will prove to cause complications throughout their history.
Second, Zelophehad had no sons...only daughters. Still after appealing to Joseph, Eleazar and the elders, these daughters received an inheritance among the peoples (Josh 17:3,6) This is pretty significant since women were not typically afforded the same rights as men. Another example of God's grace.
Finally, the presence of the Canaanites was proving to become more troublesome. They were beginning to fortify and gain strength (Josh 17:16). As I apply this, I recognize that sin not dealt with (due to compromise, etc.) only gets stronger.
Proverbs 8:17 is the takeaway. It is referring to "wisdom" personified. Those who love wisdom are loved by wisdom...in other words, wisdom proves to serve him. Those who seek wisdom...always discover it. Wisdom is not elusive or available only to an elite few. Wisdom is simply acquired by loving, seeking, and embracing God.
