After a year of the flood and the water that subsided following it, It came to be time for the animals to be released. What we see is a renewal of the purpose of God along with the blessing "be fruitful and multiply. (Gen 8:17)" At the Lord's Command, Noah released the animals from the Ark (obedience) (Gen 8:18) and then built an altar and worshipped God (Gen 8:19) through the prescribed sacrifices (sacrifice/worship). Again, it is worthy to keep in mind that this act of sacrifice took place long before the Law was written by Moses. God's commands do not originate with Moses. He is not the founder of a great religion. He simply recorded that which was practiced and Holy Spirit led.
God looked upon Noah's worship and made an everlasting covenant to never again curse the ground or utterly destroy every living thing as long as the earth lasts (Gen 8:21-22). This is a one-sided covenant. It is not conditional on man's actions, but is based on the truthfulness of God's character alone.
(More on the covenant tomorrow).
Proverbs 30:12 is the takeaway for today. It is always good for us to see ourselves as we really are. We can convince ourselves of just about anything. This is why we must compare ourselves to God's Word...which always gives a true assessment of who we are and how we are in everything.
